2010 — 27 April: Tuesday

My new "Microsoft Security Essentials" glosses over just how much it slows your system down doing its real-time protection thing. So I've now told it not to bother scanning any GIFs, JPGs, or BMPs in the appropriate subdirectory where I keep such things. I was getting extremely irritated by the sluggish response (which is, of course, not accompanied by any kind of information about what's causing it).

Warning

Bah, humbug. G'night.

It's raining, down...

... in Big Bro land on the NZ "farm". This is goodness, apparently. I doubt it was orographically induced, however. More locally, it's 09:27 and I have a lunch to pack, clothes to don, and a walking rendezvous to make. What a busy chap!

My departure is going to be a few minutes later than desirable — lads with large tools are putting the finishing touches to the new tarmac covering over the hole in front of my drive that was dug up on Saturday to repair the frayed electric string conducting power to my downstream neighbours.

Safely back...

... from a 7.1 mile ramble around parts of Old Alresford. Guess what? The bluebells are out. It's 15:05 and I'm about to wrap myself round a nice refreshing cuppa. [F/X: Slurp.]

Many moons ago, Mike showed me the excellent "This filthy world" one-man show that the so-called Pope of Trash (John Waters) has been steadily refining over the years. I finally got the round tuit I needed, and Mr Postie dropped my own copy of the DVD off just as I was setting out this morning...

DVD

Funnily enough, Waters' 2004 film ("A dirty shame") was about the only thing I can remember Christa actually asking me to stop showing — our (low) tastes in culture were generally pretty well-aligned. I guess I can now finally finish watching it! It features Tracey Ullman in a vastly different rôle from her turn as "Mother Nature" in last night's very enjoyable Amy Heckerling film.

Speaking of moons...

... which I was, a few hours ago, here's one I saw earlier:

Luna

Terrible confession time: I know I needed glasses as a kid, but I could never see "the man in the moon", then or now. But I can see it's time (20:43) for my next cuppa.
